GUEST SPEAKER
Brian Yanko –
NZ Police Fleet Manager
Brian has a passion for technology and new systems.
This became evident as he described the transition to
Skoda after Holden quit NZ.
Brian manages the marked and plain Police cars.
The Utes, Motorcycles, Dog cars, Boats
and Prisoner transport vehicles.
He also oversees the contract of the two
Police Helicopters and also has two tractors in the Fleet!
Brian said managing the Budget was always a challenge,
such as writing off one vehicle a week.
The working relationship with Skoda was obviously really good
and they now have 99% of orders for parts filled the next day.
But planning ahead is essential and they have to advise their
vehicle requirements to Skoda 18 months out.
Apart from Skoda, the police have built relationships the
Giltrap Group and another large vehicle Fleet company,
Downers.
These relationships really worked during
Cyclone Gabriel, when Brian’s resources were stretched.
The move to EV vehicles will be a challenge but testing
and trialling is underway.

Brians presentation covered so much more than can be
recorded in this publication.
Museum donations, Special Dog Cars, Special Prisoner transport.
The list goes on.
It was probably one of the best presentations we have had and
certainly one of the most informative.
