Opening thought:
As we celebrate another year acknowledging the establishment of our very special Rotary Club, let us not forget the key reasons why it was set up: First and foremost, service above self; service to our community. The fellowship of our people as we enjoy each other's company. And our desire to meet all the individual needs of our members who want to serve in the way that best suits their abilities and capacity. Here's to Kāpiti Rotary! Cheers!
Parting thought:
May this Charter Night mark the start of another wonderful year of friendship, purpose and positive change.

President Tim
President Tim welcomed everyone and thanked the Club Services Committee who set up and Ingrid's team in the kitchen for all the hard work to create tonight's event.
Tim narrated a PowerPoint run-through of some of the Club's history, including recent Presidents and a tribute to Members who have passed away. We stand on the shoulders of giants…
Presentations
Gary Lawrence - Ruby Pin and Master of the Chair. In recognition of Gary's amazing contribution to Taveuni's dental health, Past President Paul presented Gary with the award of a Ruby Pin. This is a Rotary Foundation Award to recognise high level donations. Gary and his team have contributed the equivalent of $1.5 million in goods and services over 8 trips. Gary acknowledged the work of his team, including his wife Diane, without whom none of this would be possible.
Gary was also dubbed Master of the Chair, succeeding Roy Opie as guardian of the chair used by Queen Elizabeth II on her tour of New Zealand.
Shirley Stratton - her second sapphire pin in recognition of her tireless work as Secretary, keeping the Club running, and her work on RYLA for 3 years. Shirley acknowledged the recognition and the support of the Club to deliver RYLA, saying working on the programme was the best project she has ever done in Rotary.
Entertainment
We were entertained with some marvellous music by a quartet from Kāpiti College, who had not performed together in public before. They were very talented and we enjoyed their performance.

There is a wonderful opportunity to support apprentices through funding for support, including tools, via applications to the Sue and Jack Leslie Trust. Members are encouraged to identify apprentices who live and work in Kāpiti and who might benefit from this assistance. This is a fantastic opportunity for Rotary connections to help young people develop their skills, build confidence and progress in their chosen trades. Applications can be directed to Derek.

Ross' report
“Beside the Seaside”
What a wonderful weekend we had at the Rotary Roadie, “Beside the Seaside,” at Foxton Holiday Park! The weekend kicked off with a happy hour, followed by a good old-fashioned fish and chip tea and a lively game of Lucky Bingo. It was a great start to a weekend filled with friendship, fun and laughter.
Saturday offered plenty of activities, including a bike ride and a fantastic Foxton Beach scavenger hunt organised by Sue Scutter. The challenge was to find a list of items, and it certainly produced some interesting moments and wonderful photos!
Saturday evening was all about our barbecue tea, with everyone encouraged to dress up in their favourite beachwear. John Scutter and his team of helpers did a fantastic job preparing the barbecue, making sure everyone was well fed and happy.
Thanks to Gary Lawrence, who just happened to have a Sky box available, we were also able to settle in and enjoy the rugby together. After the game, we tucked into a delicious dessert before putting our musical knowledge to the test in a music quiz competition, which everyone enthusiastically joined in.
There was certainly no shortage of entertainment, good food, laughter and great company throughout the weekend!
A special message that summed it all up
I was absolutely rapt to receive a lovely message from Cherie afterwards. Her words really captured what the weekend was all about:
“A huge and heartfelt thank you both for such a fabulous roadie! We loved every minute of it — the fun, the precious time together, the eating, the drinking, the endless laughter, and most of all, the wonderful camaraderie.
It’s these moments, filled with friendship, good company and shared adventures, that make life so special. We couldn’t have asked for better people to share the journey with!
Thank you both for the generosity, warmth and wonderful memories. Here’s to many more roadies, laughs and adventures together with Rotary.
With much appreciation!”
Thank you, Cherie, for such a lovely message. Donna and I were delighted to help make the weekend enjoyable for everyone.
That is what these Rotary Roadies are all about — friendship, fellowship, shared adventures and making wonderful memories together.
Have a look through the photos and relive some of the highlights. I think you’ll agree that “Beside the Seaside” was another very successful and memorable Rotary Roadie!
Here’s to the next one!
Thanks Ross from all of us. This weekend away has become a treasured opportunity for fun and fellowship. We appreciate all the hard work you put into making it happen.
