Club Fun Bowls Night
8 February 2024

President Vic Hewson

Secretary
Shirley Stratton

Treasurer
Mike Redman

Hosted by the Waikanae Bowling Club

Guests: Several members brought partners. Cherie's daughter Celia joined in but unfortunately took a tumble and finished the evening with a sore ankle. Hazel and Bruce, Dorothy's son and daughter in law joined in. We were pleased to be joined by potential members from Team Waka Ama, Steve, Derek and Jake.

February in the Rotary International Calendar is Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month
Rob from the Waikanae Bowling Club thanked our attendees for their support and enthusiastic participation despite a light drizzle. He noted we laughed a little, cried a little, and sometimes even turned disaster into triumph. Some of us actually managed to finally get a bowl onto the correct bit of the green.

Rob also encouraged people to consider joining or coming along to play casually - only $20 to become a social member - form on the website: https://www.sporty.co.nz/waikanaebc/Home-1

Best team: Steve, Derek and President Vic (which Vic announced with considerable modesty)
Winning team: Ian, Kevin S and Rod (12 points)

Thanks to Steve Parrish for organising the event, and to Waikanae Bowling Club for hosting such a fun evening.

Ingrid and team served a delicious meal and appreciated the excellent facilities.

NOTICES

President Vic

KCDC is keen to support a proposed mini putt course and may have some land available for it.

We need more bottles for the auction this week. Please bring them wrapped or not on the night. We need enough decent donations to make some money for Life Education. Please book your guests in asap for the auction and BBQ dinner. There will be exciting random prizes, awarded by the marvellous Eddie who will be running the auction.

Doug

There will be a firewood working bee at El Rancho on 17 February - 2 shifts 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. Shunt sheet will be going around at Thursday's bottle auction. 9 people and some trailers will be required for each shift.

BBQ

A BBQ for members and friends who helped deliver the Yellow Pages project was held at Al's shed on Saturday 10 February. Al's Dad Bernard generously opened up his shed bar next door which is a treasure trove of a couple of meticulously restored cars (you could eat off the sparkling clean engines) and interesting old artifacts.

Thanks to everyone for putting this on - it was much appreciated.
