Kāpiti Club
Christmas Party
11 December 2025

Providing clean water: Rotary has worked with partners to provide more than 80 percent of Ghana’s people with clean water to fight Guinea worm disease.

Reducing HIV infection: In Liberia, Rotary members are helping women get tested for HIV early in their pregnancies. They used prenatal care to reduce new HIV infections in children by 95 percent over two years.

Ending polio: Rotary members have played a key role in bringing the world to the brink of polio eradication. Their efforts have not only ended polio in 122 countries but also created a system for tackling myriad other health priorities, such as Ebola.

Christmas cheer
President Paul welcomed a huge crowd to Anzil Restaurant, with a few extras making a late appearance. The caterers set up an al fresco table and there was plenty of delicious Christmas fare. They came from far and wide, with old friends from Whanganui and Lake Dunstan putting in an appearance.

Sue the cheeky Elf made some special presentations, and Roger the Sour-y Grinch fined everyone who had shown too much jolly cheer. The proceeds of the Grinch Session were added to the vouchers donated by generous attendees, to be donated to the Kāpiti Women's Centre: https://kapitiwomenscentre.org.nz/donations-payments

The Milnes were awarded best dressed for their coordinated crimson elegance.

We sang happy birthday to Ian Ayson: 88 years lucky.

Dinner menu:

Canapes in the open air followed by ham, stewed lamb, beef, veges, salads and a variety of yummy desserts.

Induction of new Member: Mike Dunn

Mike came to us of his own free will, wanting to give back to the community. He and partner Linda moved to Paraparaumu from Lower Hutt 2 years ago. Mike is a dedicated family guy to all the kids and grandies.

He currently works for MBIE in Wellington as a Contract Manager and previously had
over 20 years in the private sector supply/logistics management field.

Mike has always been fit and active, with a highlight being playing 2 seasons of league for the mighty Levin Eels back in the 80’s. He is a staunch Warriors fan.

Mike sees Rotary as a great organisation, and Linda (and her sister Kate) were both Rotary
international exchange students in Canada and Japan respectively, back in the early
90’s.

Mike is a welcome addition to the Club and will join the Youth Committee. Welcome, Mike!

A hot sunny day for the final working bee of the year.

Thank you for assisting at yesterday's working bee at 73 Ratanui Rd, Otaihanga, from where we delivered 20 m3 of split firewood from Paekākāriki to Otaki, and in the afternoon at the Kapiti Golf Club, where we split an estimated 10m3 with two splitters and stacked on to pallets to commence drying. We also loaded and delivered 5 m3 loaded and left 2 trailers loaded with 6 m3 to be delivered next week, all sold and worth just over $4000.
Thank you to those that supplied trailers, vehicles to tow the trailers, splitters, morning and afternoon teas (the muffins and egg sandwiches went down a treat!), and of course those who helped stack, split, load and unload. Many thanks.
A small contingent enjoyed refreshments at the Jolly before returning home.

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year,

Yours in Rotary,

Doug Hooper Smith
