Geoff Lewis proudly showcased Lewis Farms, famous throughout the region for its Tender Tips asparagus, strawberries and real fruit ice cream. Geoff and his wife Liz have been growing and packing 500 tonnes of asparagus for years. Asparagus which is a fern! can last for 12-13 years. Only the spears are picked....Geoff talked about various aspects of the farm operations, including how they have expanded into the berry fruit business, which they grow in tunnel houses providing the business with an 8 month growing season using a form of hydroponics. A very sophisticated growing operation.
They have started their next phase of expansion building more tunnel houses aiming to produce about 500 tonnes of strawberries per annum and to develop a jam making operation.
