Seb Grodd, Head of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications Life Flight gave in-depth insights into the foundations of Life Flight, its activities and exciting plans to improve their service and secure their future. These plans -which require substantial funding -will be made public toward the end of the year. Discussions are presently underway with potential significant donors.
President Alistair Beisel presented Seb with a cheque for $5,000 on behalf of members.

Founder Peter Button who was motivated by the rescue efforts at the Wahine Disaster in 1968. He rounded up a couple of well to do benefactors and sponsor Westpac -to purchase a helicopter to provide a rescue service.Today Life Flight operates 1 helicopter and 3 aging fixed wing aircraft around New Zealand, predominantly lower North Island.
Life Flight work day & night 24/7. Over two weeks just this May, 63 people have needed their service- a callout every 6 hours! The cost per callout is $4,000. Needless to say they rely upon grants and donations to keep aloft.
Life Flight have a close relationship with Wellington Hospital especially the Childrens Hospital.
Our District 9940 has established the Wellington Childrens Health Funds Trust with rotarian Carol Green (who introduced Seb) the Area Governor and Secretary- to help raise funds for the Children hospital. With the hospital now built the trust is now focusing its efforts supporting Life Flight.
