With 140 members of which at least 40 regularly turnout on Tuesdays and Thursdays at their property at Waikanae Beach. "A place where men can do what men do…., providing a safe environment for personal growth and sharing skills and knowledge. Most members are retired or not currently working -are often at a loss for projects or purpose, are getting in the way at home and / or just need a place to hang out. They pay a gold coin to attend, get involved in projects such as crosses for RSA, playhouses, furniture restoration, memorial seats, learn new skills, using machinery donated by the public, likely when downsizing.
A recent notable, much publicised and appreciated project was renovating the building and premises for the Cancer Society at Kapiti Rd.,(some of our own members pitched in for a bit).
Having put up with a cramped workshop, taking cuppas and socialising outside in all weather over the years, the group has secured funding from the Nikau Foundation and others to build a social rooms / amenities and a 140m2 workshop. Work-by members themselves of course- is well underway.
A wonderful, much needed and understandably extremely successful concept for men’s wellbeing and health.
